Improve your office ergonomics

Small ergonomic changes can make a big difference to your team’s health, productivity and overall wellbeing. See below for three simple ergonomic tips that should be implemented in all workplaces:
Ergonomic chairs
An ergonomic chair supports the natural curve of the spine, reduces pressure on the lower back by providing adequate lumbar support, and encourages good posture. It is important to select chairs that have high adjustability, so your team can adjust the seat height, seat pan tilt, back rest height and tilt and armrests to suit their body. It is highly important to ensure that the chair is providing appropriate lumbar and thoracic support to decrease strain through the spine, neck and shoulders and promote upright posture.
Position monitors at eye level
Encouraging staff to position their monitor screens so that the top third of the screen is at eye level to reduce strain on their neck and shoulders. This can be achieved by using a height adjustable monitor raiser, or simply by putting books or paper reams underneath to elevate the screens to the appointed height. It is also important to note to adjust the monitor if there is additional glare coming from nearby windows to reduce eye strain.
Encourage movement breaks
While it sounds simple, taking regular movement breaks and visual breaks is really important to prevent eye strain, promote blood flow, reduce muscle strain and maintain focus throughout the day. Ergonomic desk risers or sit-stand desks are becoming increasingly popular in workplaces and home-office set ups. They offer flexibility as they allow workers to alternate between sitting and standing to encourage movement breaks throughout the day and promote circulation throughout the body. It is recommended to have a short movement break every 30-60 minutes to reduce prolonged sitting, reduce muscle strain and maintain focus and productivity throughout the day.
